Douglas began his career in New York City learning the fundamentals of the moving business on the ground with Delancey Street Movers — one of the city’s most established relocation operations. This early hands-on experience taught him the grit, efficiency, physical stamina, and meticulous care required to succeed in a high-demand, fast-paced industry.
Transitioning into corporate leadership, Douglas spent 20 years with Gold’s Gym. Starting behind the front desk, he worked his way up to regional manager of New England, leading over 100 employees across multiple locations. During this time, he perfected his operational mindset, scaled multi-location logistics, and developed a customer-first philosophy that remains the core of his business strategy today.
Seeing an opportunity to bring better customer service and higher standards to the moving industry in his home state of Florida, Douglas founded Patriot Moving & Storage. Over ten years, he built the business from the ground up into a thriving $2 million-a-year enterprise, culminating in a successful sale and early retirement in 2023.
Driven by gratitude and a desire to give back, Douglas came out of retirement after two years to launch NXTMove Moving & Storage with a unique mission: paying it forward. He partnered with two of his longtime, hardworking movers from Patriot Moving, bringing them in as co-owners with zero buy-in to mentor them, teach them business ownership, and help build long-term wealth for their families.
Today, Douglas oversees all strategic operations at NXTMove Moving & Storage, delivering transparent pricing, careful handling, and stress-free transitions across South Florida.
